Put the title: A port in our local area: Gt Yarmouth

Research/ask your family or use my suggestions:

I found this website about now; https://www.peelports.com/ports/great-yarmouth

This one for history (scroll down a bit) https://www.great-yarmouth.co.uk/things-to-do/cultural-heritage.aspx Write  about Gt Yarmouth as a port. Answer these questions:

  1. How historically was it an important port for this area?
  2. What is the port used for now?
  3. What might happen in the future for Gt Yarmouth as a sea port?

10 marks for history info on Gt Yarmouth

10 marks for current use of the port

10 marks for the future of Gt Yarmouth port

The last geography/English task : information poster. ( take up two lessons)

Gt Yarmouth has two “harbours” the old harbour where the fishing fleet used to be and the newer “outer harbour”. Try and find them on an aerial view of Gt Yarmouth (google earth) or images.

Can you find the bridge crossings- one near the sea/harbour and town, the other – which you may have used a lot – the great Breydon bridge over the river as the road leaves the “Acle straight” and goes across Breydon water? This is where the river Yare and Bure meet. Do you know which river is which?

How many other bridges can you find?

Gt Yarmouth is now perhaps more important/known as a tourist /holiday settlement than a port- can you see the pier and other seaside attractions?

Present what you have found out about the settlement of Gt Yarmouth as an information poster showing how it is a port  AND a holiday settlement and any other  GEOGRAPHICAL features that you have found.  You can paste picture, draw, write as much as little as you like.  Take your time- this counts as two tasks for the week!

10 marks for geographical words and labels about the settlement of Gt Yarmouth

10 marks for presentation- neatness/accurate spelling etc

10 marks for layout of poster- titles/art work
