Summer Half Term 1 2025

This half term we have been focusing on bugs, minibeasts and lifecycles! We have been using ‘bug catchers’ to find and identify different living things in the garden, taking great care whilst we do so. We have also been looking at what makes a good home for insects, using our pretend bugs to place in their correct habitats. We celebrated World Bee Day by taking part in several activities focused on bees and learnt why they are so special – how they pollinate flowers and help plants grow.

Over the half term, our Nursery children had an exciting series of Forest School sessions led by Mrs. Truman-Grieve. Immersed in nature, the children explored the outdoors through a variety of hands-on activities that sparked curiosity and built new skills.

They began their adventures with scavenger hunts, searching high and low for natural treasures and learning to observe the world around them more closely. Using the leaves and materials they collected, the children created beautiful butterfly prints, combining art with their natural finds.

A key part of their learning involved understanding how to stay safe outdoors. They talked about potential hazards and how to move safely through the environment, building awareness and confidence in outdoor settings. One of the highlights was learning how to build a fire safely and how to cut logs under supervision – skills that encouraged responsibility and teamwork. To top it all off, they had the special treat of toasting marshmallows and making delicious s’mores – a perfect end to their woodland adventures!
