Singing Assembly 28.2.23

This week we had a very special singing performance by Year 2 children Jack, Ellen and Charlie, accompanied on ukulele by children from Herons. They chose to perform ‘How Great Thou Art’ and ‘The Wellerman’ and we were all blown away by their confidence and wonderful singing voices! As it is the time of Lent when Christians remember the time leading up to Jesus’s death on the cross, we learned the second verse of How Great Thou Art:

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing

Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in

That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing

He bled and died to take away my sin

Also, a group of Year 6 children announced a whole-school musical project: each class in our school will be filmed performing a song or piece of music and it will be edited together to showcase all of the wonderful musicians we have here. Stay tuned for forthcoming updates!

Year 4/5 Ukulele – January 2023

Year 4 and 5 from Herons and Grebes have been learning to play a mash-up of House of the Rising Sun and Amazing Grace inspired by this performance by the Blind Boys of Alabama.

In this video the children are practising reading tablature from the page to pluck the melody.

They are getting excited to perform this in assembly next week!

Progression in PE

The unit this half term in PE is gymnastics; Children beginning by learning about points and patches on their body which they can use to balance on. They also learn various jumps and then move on to learning to perform different types of rolls including: pencil, egg, sideways tuck, sideways shoulder, teddy bear and forward and backwards. The children then work in pairs and small groups to build a sequence of balances, jumps and rolls which are linked with ways of moving. They build their confidence in order to perform these routines in front of others.

The children have begun to notice the different muscles being used in gymnastics in comparison to other sports they have participated in PE. Grebes observed there are a lot more core muscles being used!

Watch this space for some photos and videos of their successful final routines!!
